This is a review of the 3 books as a whole. Copied from the 1st book review :A friend of mine told me to read this series. I hadn't read in a while, so I started this, and was hooked. What I like is that it is full of surprises. I love the characters, and the way she brings us in to the story, no useless or missing information. I personally, enjoyed Torn more than the others, that book I was able to get right in the book and see it as I read it, I don't know why the others didn't do it for me too. But All 3 books were fun to read. It has a little bit of everything that I like, mer-people, flying horses, magic, humor and little bit of love, but not where it bored the reader. There were fights and war, and creativity throughout all the pages. I would recommend this series to anyone!

Torn Bound Trilogy Volume 2 Kate Sparkes 9780993822056 Books Reviews
I have fell in love with the Bound trilogy. It's been fun and scary traveling along side Aren and Rowen. It's been an interesting ride. The next book will be another and final adventure I'm excited to take with them. I'm excited to see how they win the crown back and bring the earth back to harmony. I'm very hooked to the story line and can't seem to put the books down. I wish the last 2 books had a whisper sync book so I could continue with the story while I need to get stuff done. Hopefully they'll add those audio books soon. Anyway, I really have enjoyed this trilogy.
As an adult reader, I was very pleased with this sequel and am eagerly awaiting Book 3. I have to admit, I thought the writing in the beginning of the book was a bit rough, but stick with it because it does get better. It was a little awkward being introduced to a new character right away, but of course she becomes important later on. Both Rowan and Aren grow and change a lot in this book, which is fantastic and there is a new romance between two other characters as well, which is fun. I found the secondary characters to be very well written and the villains quite believable, not campy like so many YA fantasies. Maybe it helps that the main characters are a little older--Rowan is 19 (I think) and Aren 24. Once again, there is plenty of action here and the story progresses quite a bit. It does not suffer from sequel slump. This is not just filler material waiting for book 3. We get new characters and some new problems. Readers of Bound will not be disappointed.
I have no personal connection to the author and did not receive my books for free, so this is an honest review.
Torn really did do justice to Bound. I was worried that it couldn't possibly follow up with anything better than mer-people, but it did.
First, there is a fly horse that talks. I want one. The only thing that would make it better would be having a horn and being a unicorn.
I like the fact the Aren struggles with his "dark" magic. He doesn't just up and refuse to use it and become a great person and blah blah blah. It is more realistic and you see things in the gray area where most things in life reside.
Rowan also grows on me in the book. She mostly annoyed me in the first book. She acted childish and was fascinated by fairytales and didn't seem worried enough that she was hanging around with a mass murderer. She was dumb and I just wanted her to stop talking. In Torn, the girl really grew up. And I seriously liked her. She may have made a few iffy choices, but she dealt with them and became a real badass.
A new character, Nox, is introduced and the bitch is just a straight bitch. But really. I hate her. I mean, the entire time she is just mean to everyone and jumping down their throats but thinks that she is All Loving does great things for people who don't deserve it. I just wanted Ruby the dragon to eat her. There is nothing nice or charming about her, and though Mel (a mer friend) claims she has a great soul, there is just NO WAY. I don't know what he sees in her. I honestly just think it is the first human woman he has come across and that's the only reason.
The main issue I have with the book is that everything happens at such perfect timing, that it is so incredibly unrealistic. And I mean like everything that happens in the book is like this. It drives me nuts.
But go read the book, really, you'll like it, I promise.
Following on the heels of Bound, the same cast of characters are back (with interesting additions). The author makes the transition between Books I and II seamless. Characters remain in character and the narrative pace and dialogue are identical to Book I. Not an easy trick to pull off in a series.
Although backstory is added to flesh out the characters and plot, this book could be read apart from the trilogy. I wouldn’t recommend it though. It is a book you will want to enjoy to the fullest and to do that, Book I (Bound) is necessary.
Although all the scenes are drawn beautifully, it is the battle scenes that are especially heart-stopping and insanely realistic.
Torn is a book well worth reading as are the other books in the series (Bound and Sworn).
Fascinating story with beautiful descriptions. I love the characters and systems created by Kate Sparkes and the metaphors are thought-provoking. This story, like the first of the trilogy, makes sense and doesn't have any of the holes or obviously manipulated twists of some sci fi. That the violence isn't lingered over and drawn out is appreciated as is the lack of explicit sexual encounters which I find lazy and boring. This story shows ethics and, as in real life, the characters are trying to be better and not always able to gauge the best action in the moment. Interesting and inspiring, I recommend this book to anyone who doesn't want unremitting violence and/or sex in a book. My only complaint is that the story suddenly and startlingly ended. [Reading on , didn't realize the book had ended till the next page.]
